David: Killzone Mercenary & Final Fantasy X/X-2

Some of the choices were really obvious while other totally hit me by surprise. My game of the show is Killzone: Mercenary mostly because this game shows the true potential of the PS Vita. The graphics are amazing, the story sounds unique and there”s a multiplayer mode that promises action for up to 8 players (learn about our impressions of the current PSN beta that will be open to every Vita player starting tomorrow). This game is crafted by Guerrilla Cambridge, a sister studio to Guerrilla Games, that was behind the classic MediEvil and the 2010 PSP port for Little Big Planet.
You can pick up Killzone Mercenary in a few days, September 4th.

My second game of the show is Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster mainly because it”s the first sign that Square Enix starts to take notes from its fans after dozens of wrong calls. Of course, Final Fantasy X isn’t as good as the seventh entry that everyone constantly talks about, but it’s a great game to experience if you haven’t tried it on the PS2. Moreover, this title won”t be a simple port to HD graphics, it will feature a new final episode, new cutscenes and some additional tracks for your enjoyment.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD is scheduled for 2013 Q4.

Melitta: Beyond – Two Souls

My gamescom 2013 pick is Beyond: Two Souls. After I saw the first trailer I was totally excited for the game. This year”s gamescom even gave me the opportunity to try the game myself. My curiosity regarding the game hasn”t been satisfied. But what”s so special about the game? What interest me the most is the story. Jodie is a special girl, she sees what others don”t see and lets things happen. Actually it isn”t Jodie herself. Something”s connected to her and it gives Jodies these powers. Not only globally spread labs and the CIA are interested in Jodie”s case, even my curiosity as a player is sparked.

On the gameplay side we see something fresh, too. You”re taken by the hand and led through the narrative. From time to time you can interact with what happens on-screen and that changes certain elements of the story. The way it”s designed you can lean back and enjoy the story while not realizing how much you change as a player. Judging by the scenes I was able to play at gamescom my will to buy the game and lean back to enjoy it was strenghened!

Patrick: Command & Conquer und Murasaki Baby

Beyond, Watch_Dogs and especially the Arkham Origins doublepack – which Melitta could already play at the show and I am a big fan of the prequels/sequels by Rocksteady – I definetly want to play all these blockbusters, too. Unfortunetly at the show there was not really anything new to see for us who couldn”t attend at gamescom which is why I show you two titles that were completely off my radar until gamescom 2013.

Command & Conquer: Generals (of course we talk about the USK-rated version) was one of the first Real-Time-Strategy games I was really addicted to, that was almost exactly ten years ago. Now EA brings the franchise back from Red Alert/Tiberium waters and lets the mighty generals conquer again. Finally EU”s Raptor jets fight the Asian Overlord tanks while the GLA makes use of their SCUD units. I saw the first footage while gamescom and the game looks fantastic thanks to the utilization of the Frostbite 2 Engine (Battlefield 3). It also stays true to the original incorporating only one ressource, a variety of different generals, the units you”ve come to love and of course the superweapons. With the new engine and interface it will also attract those players that were too young back then or missed this entry. C&C seems a game that”s made for competition but the recent announcement of campaign maps for your singleplayer RTS enjoyment are a real treat for those who appreciated Generals singleplayer such as myself. Coming this fall PC generals beware for a fight you can”t miss.

Murasaki Baby on the other hand is an independent game for PS Vita by former Grasshoper director Massimo Guarini (Killer7 etc.). You are Murasaki Baby and explore a distorted world full of child fantasies and fears. You meet peculiar characters and solve puzzles using the touch screen. Look and feel plus the puzzle aspect remind me, not of Limbo, but of Closure, just this time in a coherent world which is designed with a lot of attention to detail, all hand-crafted on paper. The trailer already gives insight in the eerie mood of the game and I”ll be sure to sink right into it in 2014

What was your game of the show?, don’t be shy to post a comment.
