Announcements

As expected a lot of upcoming games were shown off during the show. It would blow the proportions of this post to cover every single trailer. Feel free to skip through the playlist including every game or take a look at our selection below.

Final Fantasy XVI

Final Fantasy XVI will be released by Square Enix exclusively for PlayStation 5 on June 22nd, 2023. In the new trailer we get insight into the tragic background story of protagonist Clive Rosfield and a glimpse into the action-oriented gameplay.

Death Stranding 2 (Working Title)

Kojima Productions announced the sequel to Death Stranding at The Game Awards 2022. Death Stranding 2 or in short DS2 is the working title of the game. The first trailer shows a visibly aged Sam Bridges (Norman Reedus), Fragile (Léa Seydoux) and Higgs (Troy Baker). Elle Fanning (Super 8) and Shioli Kutsuna (Deadpool 2) are also part of the cast. It remains to be seen when the game will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

EA and Respawn Entertainment will release the follow-up to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on March 17th, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Cal Kestis (Cameron Monaghan) has gathered additional powers as a Jedi and can wield two lightsabers at once in addition to be able to use a new parry-focused combat style. Mark your calendars if you’re looking for a more refined Fallen Order.

Crime Boss: Rockay City

Have you ever wished for Chuck Norris, Michael Rooker, Danny Glover, Danny Trejo and Vanilla Ice being in the same game? Then Czech-based developer InGame Studios (Mafia and ArmA series veterans) and 505 Games will fulfill that wish finally. Crime Boss is a heist shooter in the vain of Payday. Grab up to three friends to perform exhilarting coups. While the cast is impressive, it remains to be seen if the game will be able to compete with the strong competition. The first-person-shooter will be available on Epic Games Store from March 28th, 2023 (pre-orders are currently 40% off) and it’s coming soon to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

Valiant Hearts: Coming Home

2014’s World War 1-themed adventure Valiant Hearts: The Great War will get a sequel early 2023. Valiant Hearts: Coming Home is in development at Ubisoft Montpellier who is responsible for the first game and mobile experts Old Skull Games. It’s part of a three game deal Ubisoft has closed with Netflix, therefore it’ll come out exclusively to Netflix subscribers on mobile devices. Since the predecessor came to almost every platform, it’s possible this exclusivity will be lifted at a later adte. The short trailer seemingly shows the game holding on to the first game’s decision to have multiple playable characters such as US soldier Freddie and Belgian nurse Anna who are returning from The Great War and a duo of brothers never-seen-before in the series. Coming Home utilizes the iconic art style of the first game and we’re hopeful that the storytelling will be able to keep up with the first game which we can still recommend playing wholeheartedly.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

Idris Elba (The Suicide Squad) will be joining the cast of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty as Solomon Reed as one of the few characters the players will be able to trust in a story full of espionage and survival. The first and only story expansion to Cyberpunk 2077 will lead you into the Dogtown district of Night City. The new chapter will be released in 2023 for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5.

Scars Above

For the very first time Mad Head Games and Plaion showed off official gameplay of Scars Above at The Game Awards 2022, in addition to announcing the action-adventure’s release date on February 28th, 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC. After playing it at gamescom 2022 we are looking forward to the mix of 3rd-person shooting, an extensive upgrade system and tricky enviromental puzzles. What we didn’t like are the small segmented bland areas in the beginning of the game and the gunplay which is a bit too imprecise. Let’s hope these things can be fixed until the release. If you like Returnal or Lost Planet, you should add Scars Above to your wishlist.

Judas

Judas is the spiritual successor of Bioshock in development at Ghost Story Games under the direction of Ken Levine. You can see the influence of the revolutionary mix of FPS and RPG in the way the world and characters are designed. Even a system replacing the Splices seems to be in place. Judas will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Epic Games Store uand Steam) at an unannounced date.
