Rollerdrome

As Kara Hasan, we strap on our rollerblades and load our pistols to pass the Rollerdrome tournament. To do this, we have to master several levels in the KO system, complete objectives in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (THPS) style and, similar to Max Payne, eliminate all kinds of opponents in slow motion who are equipped with protective shields, rocket launchers and much more. To get ammunition we perform daring tricks like grabs and spins and ideally we complete the levels directly in one monster combo. Although Rollerdrome has a good tutorial, it takes a while to get the hang of the controls. However, once it clicks, Roll7’s interesting mix of genres (OlliOlli series) is a lot of fun and gets more and more challenging as the tournament progresses.
The colorful graphic style with its distinctive edges is strongly reminiscent of Sable and looks fabulous. The game runs pleasantly smooth even in the wildest battles, in which you dodge mines, sniper shots and rockets. The story serves more as a means to an end, but the sequences in which we can explore the game world in a relaxed manner from the first-person perspective are still a nice bonus and a welcome change of pace from the action-packed clashes in the arenas.
Rollerdrome is a fun genre mix and takes you around 4 hours from start to finish. The game also motivates you to want to spend a lot more time with it in order to crack the final high score and complete the THPS-like task list. Numerous customization options regarding the pace of the game, the amount of damage you take and ammunition you have, and much more let you adjust the difficulty to your own playstyle. We are curious to see what game Roll7 will bring us next, they call it their magnum opus after all.
